Gamification in Learning

Gamification in Learning

About

I am very curious about using gamification to drive engagement in e-learning. It can incentivize learning, give learners affirmation and simply make learning more fun! Though limited in how I could incorporate this at UCTOHS, I began to explore gamified features in my own work. This is an area I'd love to expand in future work.

Here are a few examples of gamification in my Grade 9 English content:

Summary of the play

To summarize the events of the play, learners used this interactive board game. Although features were limited, it made learning a lot more fun and accessible.

Role play

One of the texts learners have to write is a report. To practise, they were given a fun scenario as a detective and a curious puzzle. Can you work out who stole the Monet?

Write a story

This image accompanied instructions on finding a setting for the learners' story. This helped to spark the imagination. In future, it would be great to animate and develop this more!
