Reworking a Poetry Lesson

Reworking a Poetry Lesson

The goal

After a year of the UCTOHS offering, there was enough learner data to begin evaluations on 2022 content. Over a few months, I restructured 25 Grade 9 modules. The side-by-side comparison below shows the improvements in my design skills and thinking.

Reading the poem

Embedding the text and the audio makes it much easier to read the poem. Hover-over text defines unfamiliar words for the learners.

Who was Lucille Clifton?

Better use of space allows for a clearer relationship between text and image. Fun fact boxes demarcate information that is interesting, but not critical.

Analysis of poem

Analysis next to the poetry lines makes it easier to follow along. The writing is clearer and simpler, making the poem more accessible.
